This is a listing for a leather bear hair barrette.
From the Ursa Major (Bear of the North) constellation to the matriarchal care a mother Bear shows her young in the winter den, Bears have long been considered an animal of Wisdom and Nurturing.
While these hair barrettes may not be as fluffy as a real Bear, they share a sense of Wisdom and care in the soft leather and engraved Celtic Knots.
Made to order, you can choose the size and width of each Bear barrette to best match your hair's volume and thickness!
Further customize your barrette to match your outfit and style in your choice of leather color! (See features below of Leather Color variations next to the photos for color options)

*Leather Care:
For the best leather care and to maintain soft, pliable leather for a lifetime, I recommend re-oiling your hair barrette every 6 months or so. I find some of the best leather conditioners and oils to use are Fiebing's, Lexol, or Neatsfoot Oil. These all help prevent the leather from cracking, and also add a water resistant finish on the leather to help shed rain. If the leather gets wet, allow it to dry in a cool spot away from direct sunlight. Do not dry with a paper-towel or heat source (such as a hair dryer), because it'll remove the oils from the leather and may cause the leather to begin cracking.

Yes! Everything in our shop is made with 100% genuine cow leather. Specifically 8/9oz Vegetable Tanned Cow Hide, for my fellow leather nerds out there.
Unfortunately, we don't have the equipment to engrave on the metal currently. We're still happy to stamp a name on the leather using traditional brass stamps!
We can fit a name and phone number on any of our 1.5" wide or 2" wide martingales! Please send us a message to confirm if the name and phone number you have will fit on any of the 1" wide collars. They can be a little trickier, because space is more limited.
Yes, you can! I can engrave two lines, three lines if you don't mind small print, on the nameplates.
All of my items are hand-made in a traditional leather-worker fashion (one-on-one with a hole-punch), in my small shop nestled in the woods in upstate NY! Because of the attention I give to detail and the made-to-order nature of my work, my current creation time to shipping is 3-5 business days.
If you need it faster, I do offer quicker shipping available during check-out or you're welcome to send me a message!
If you live near Ithaca or Spencer, New York, I do also offer pick-up by appointment with a bonus shop tour!
Yes, I do! You can select faster shipping options for an additional cost during check-out. The extra cost goes to USPS for their Priority and Express shipping options. (Note: these options only speed up the shipping times after I've finished and sent your order out.)
